BIG recruitment for 2026–2027 is now open. The Guild of Mechanical Engineers is looking for two types of BIGs aka tutors:

• Kandi-ISOs = tutors for Finnish-speaking bachelor’s freshmen
  
  
• International and Master’s BIGs = tutors for master’s freshmen and exchange students
  
  
  

As a BIG, you get to help create an amazing orientation week for new students. You’ll also get to experience the best parts of orientation week again, this time from the BIG’s perspective. In addition, lots of great events are organized specifically for BIGs, and the BIG Committee (ITMK) makes sure ISOs have a fun time. As a BIG, you’ll guide freshmen through their entire first year, all the way to the possible Wappu!

All BIGs receive BIG training, so you don’t need to know anything in advance. The only requirement is interest in the activity, so anyone from first-year students to Nth-year students can apply.

You can earn 2 credits for being a BIG by completing the course International student tutoring JOIN-A0005 (or its Finnish equivalent JOIN-A0004). International tutors can also receive financial compensation for both the autumn and spring semesters.

This year, everyone who wants to be a TF-KIK BIG must apply through both the Mechanical Engineering Guild and TF.

The application period opens Feb 9 at 12:00 and closes Feb 23 at 23:59. After the application period ends, all first-time applicants will have short group interviews.

A sauna evening for BIG applicants and anyone interested in BIG activities will be held on Feb 19 at 17:00 at Ossinsauna. There you can hear more about being a BIG and spend time with others interested in tutoring.
